During this winter season, I’ve been feeling into the tender spaces of vulnerability. I did a video on it recently talking about some of the lived sensations of this emotional state, and have found that it’s calling for deeper exploration. There’s also a guided practice available, on Patreon. Links will be posted below.
As a practitioner of Sacred Embodiment, I find it important to allow the inner landscape, the Soul expressions, the inner child, the inner feminine and masculine, and our sacred shadow, the space to communicate, to speak, to reveal the depth of who we are in totality, to our conscious awareness.
As I looked up the definition of vulnerability, the underlying theme was that of fear. Though not stated outright, instead it’s described as a sense of being able to be hurt or harmed, emotionally, mentally, or emotionally.
Vulnerability can also be differentiated in forms of social, economic, environmental, and physical. I see this extending into times of major life changes, phases of life transitions … in general, any time we are going through a spiritual death process, and we are hanging out in the limbo of the unknown, which can stir the deep presence of vulnerability.
In the end comes down to the umbrella of fear. Whether that is the loss of status, finances, stability & safety, perhaps ridicule and hurt feelings, or being physically attacked.
Collectively we see the rise of fear in our world, as the systems and people we’ve trusted to take care of us, is rapidly and frighteningly shattering. There is a collective energy not only of fear, but the tender, raw, unsafe feelings. Vulnerability.
One of the most important skills of mastery in our healing journey, or as I like to say, the rememberance of our Wholeness, is being able to sit with fear. Loss, grief, feeling uprotected on any of the above levels, all boils down to the root of Fear.
The nuances of our chemistry and how the nervous system responds, as well as our unique emotional patterns and thought patterns influence any byproduct of Fear. At this time, Vulnerability is front and center.
The lived experience that I can presently relate to, has shown up as subtle anxiety, tiredness, a raw tenderness, feeling lost and emotionally shaky, tightness of the chest or muscles, disconnected, or confused. Just to name a few.
What I’ve learned to do over the last decades, and what I support clients to do, is to learn to sit with inner experiences. It’s an on-going practice and each experience offers new insights, deeper connection, and often strengthened sense of grounding.
Ultimately there’s a realization, that when we can sit with, the inner emotional peaks or valleys can be navigated.
Sitting with, at first is easier done with support, with gentle guidance, and with someone who can hold the space for what may be arise from sitting with, lets say, vulnerability.
(If you are in the midst of deep trauma patterns, a trained trauma therapist is recommended. This is not a practice advised without that supervision.)
There’s gentle, yet subtle shifts that occur once we begin to lovingly tend to our internal sensations of vulnerability.
One, is that our feelings nor the sensations are as scary as we expect.
Two, the body, the feelings, the fears may get bigger and then they begin to soften and release.
Three, we come more fully into our body, and the mind lets go.
Four, our breath smooths & relaxes & deepens, into a reprieve and relief.
Five, we find that the experience of ‘unprotected’ or ‘unarmored’ actually holds a deeper, more longstanding power, that is refelcted as our Soul Presence. We meet TRUE safety within our own being.
Six, the softening that feels exposed, enables us to access our inner feminine, regardless of gender. This revealing of this aspect of Self, expresses as Love.
Seven, this Love is an inner soothing, that enables us to gain a wider and deeper clarity, shining a light on what is really true, beneath the fear of our own softer, more powerful, Soul Presence.
Eight, while what we percieve as the ‘problem’ that causes is to feel unsafe and unprotected, may not be solved immediately, the fear can be healed & integrated, into a Wholeness, that unifies us with something so much greater, than us. Greater than the held beliefs, emotions, and ideas, that created the fear, to begin with.
Nine, a new freedom can be experienced from being present with what is, in this now moment.
Ten, in sitting with what is, in this moment, we can begin to see beyond and gain a new view or vantage point.
Vulnerability, when we learn to invite it’s presence, we see it is actually a beautiful aspect of us, as humans. It holds sweetness and power, depth and grace. When in an intimate relationship with it, we learn that we don’t need to be in an armored or protected or fight or escape mode from it.
We can sit with it & experience it wash over us, and reveal to us the Love and tenderness, that is an important and valuable aspect of our Soul embodiment.
The year of the Wood Snake is still active until we shift on February 17th. At that time, in comes the Fire Horse to kick off the Eclipse Season, on the New Moonin Aquarius.
