Throughout all cultures, over eons of time, we witness those marks in time that indicate we are growing from one stage of development, to another.

One of the best known is that of Vision Quests, that takes place in Native American history. These have historically been for the males in the community, as they leave behind childhood and move into a role of adulthood. This is a right of passage, that enables the boy to become a man; to gain knowing that he can survive in the wilderness; that he has the fortitude to withstand the dangers, conditions and rawness of the natural world; that he can develope a deeper subtle relationship with life, through inner sourcing his own instinct and intuition; and this is an opportunity for him to receive the revelation of his purpose within the community. This is what we’d call an Initiation by Fire.

In modern, western culture, I believe we’ve lost both the power of true initiations and corresponding maturation. This doesn’t mean they don’t exist, however, they have failed to deliver the depths of Soul Empowerment, that once was prevalent within the collective psyche.

We do see markers of time, where people are given new privileges, at certain ages. For example, at 16 years we can drive. At 21, we can drink alcohol. After high school, we enter college. And at 18, we can go off to war. These pale greatly in comparison to some of the deeper practices that actually grow us up, and mature us into realms that cultivate an evolution of our personhood.

It is along the spiritual path, that these initiations are most relevant today. Yet, only for those who are ready to go deep. Digging an inner well, and being forged by Soul/Spirit via the trials and tribulations of the stripping away of our conditioned emotional, mental, and physical realms of our being.

It is then, we can be ready to interact with the higher dimensional landscapes, and discern from the unseen forces of the lower dimensional landscapes. For, what we are vibing within, will detirmine what and how we’ll be interfacing with the subtle realms of Life.

I tend to generalize these intiations under those of Fire and those of Water. They aren’t a one-time event, we undergo initiation again and again, if we are choosing to cultivate truth via Wisdom, becoming Love, and gaining Peace and Freedom. This is not of the intellect or thought processes, it is through lived, direct experience and embodiment.

In this current climate of our world, we’re being invited into quickened intiations!

Walking through this world and our life, we have opportunities of inititation en mass these days. The key is to recognize when we’re experiencing and initiation, and choose to consciously engage & inner listen to it’s guidance. When we become present with this awareness, we’re stepping over a threshold into our own Soul-filled experience.

Transformation requires the alchemy of death and rebirth. This dance, requires commitment, dedication, devotion, courage, and faith and trust in our relationship with Divine Source Love.

Initiations are, in my belief, a cause for celebration and rejoicing. They bring us up close and personal, into intimate commune with the essence of our being. When we know the truths revealed through these times, life is enriched, enlivened, and we live more deeply and freely!
